Tea is fast becoming my favourite meal of the day. Maybe, it will one day replace brunch (seeing as how I'm always late for brunch because I can't wake up, haha)? I absolutely loved the Afternoon Treats Special at Arteastiq! Their pomelo tea is to-die-for, though Q's rose tea wasn't particularly memorable. The spicy chilled mango salad definitely left an impression, but my favourite was their crab-meat salad volvant (sorry, I can't remember the exact names). Yummm! And everything was served in bite-sized pieces, in such pretty crockery, in a lovely ambience. I wanna go again soon....... hence the title of this post (heehee).

Brunch with Chingy and JY at Loysel's Toy (top) was so-so. The Chocolate Banana Tart ($4) was yummy, but their coffee (which was the whole point of the trip?) and service were nothing to rave about, and just about everything else we'd wanted to order was 'not available'. So we trudged off to Food for Thought afterwards for more lazing around. In the middle of our Red Velvet Cake and lattes, we decided to hound Rachel about her pregnancy... and hours later, we received her reply that she'd just given birth earlier that day! There were quite a few jokes made about our annoying messages being the trigger for the birth. :p

Met with Jan dearie last week and we had a great time shopping, tea-ing, and chatting in town. I finally managed to buy the perfect pair of sandals after having scoured shops for weeks: in oh-so-soft leather, in shades of my two favourite colours of the moment, and at half-price because I bought another basic (but equally comfy) pair of much-needed black ballet flats that were new arrivals at the store. It was love at first sight for both pairs of footwear - and we all know a good deal when we see one, don't we? ;)

"Selina" Combo (BBQ Crispy Chicken with Sour Plum Sweet Potato and Caramel Milk Tea) from 我愛台妹. So very yummy!!! Made in Singapore (it's not some franchise from Taiwan), but tastes just like it's another Taiwanese night market 小吃. Only more expensive, of course. :|

I've loved the salted egg crab at Famous Crab King ever since I was brought there for HY's birthday. I think I could spend hours there just scraping and licking the gravy off the shell... Haha. Tried the fish maw soup there, and it was not too bad. They served complimentary dessert at the end of the meal (and I would think they should when the meal for two came up to SGD$63)...

Had dinner (all-day breakfast?) at Wild Honey with my lovely ACUte some time ago. For once, I passed over my standard order of eggs benedict (when available), and decided on Tunisian (shown in the second picture), and it was awesome! I don't know what they put in there, but it had just the right amount of spiciness and tomato-goodness, and of course, my favourite egg. Anyways, I love my girls, and thanks for the long and meaningful chat. :)

DW sent an MMS to say that the stash of milk candy I left him has been depleted to a single piece (actually he took a pretty long time to finish that handful). Feels really nice to be remembered and appreciated for something that I've done, that someone didn't just take what he could from me, turn his back, and forget all about it. It brought a genuine smile to my face... something I no longer remember how to do in the midst of all these sadness and stress.

I love this wallet! But it's a little above my level.
I've been sewing for the past one and a half days. (Actually it began only because the metal bit on my dress broke on CNY day one, so I decided to screw the 'adjustable' part and sew the straps down.) I'm starting to see the wonders of pressing during a project - it's amazing what an iron can do. Sometimes, I believe in mind over matter; that we can make ourselves feel anything for somebody, as long as we want to. But that's what makes humans frightening - our ability to just switch off if we try hard enough.

Cutting

I think there are seasons for self-hurt. Like now.

There seems to be specific times of the year when I have a stronger urge to apply the Olfa to deface the epidermis than to put it to better use. Like making models.

Maybe it has nothing to do with what goes on in my life after all.

I hope people can be objective when I talk about this. It hasn't been easy for me to come clean about it. And even my parents are up to now, in a somewhat delusional state concerning the scars on my arm.

I cannot claim to be a survivor of this anomaly yet. Because I'm still fighting to conquer the urge to cut. The only day I can declare myself free of the addiction is the day the impulse doesn't come around anymore.

But the truth is I do crave the instantaneous comfort that it gives me. Yes, yes even now.

I haven't given myself any incisions for months. It is nothing to be particularly proud about though. Until now I believe it to be the best way to curb the emotions I cannot handle, but I recognize the fact that it hurts the people around me emotionally. It is the only reason I control myself.

People have mixed reactions when they notice the physical memories left behind long after the emotions have faded. And as usual, they're all too quick to judge. Some of them think I'm mentally unstable, some of them are afraid (of me), some of them are angry, and some of them are disgusted.

These are the people who make me embarrassed about the habit. They are the reason why I consciously turn my wrist inwards, towards my body so I can hide the lines. The reason I feel like a circus monkey, and the reason I lie to cover it up.

Sometimes it makes me wonder if I'm still sane.

I'm normal. Human, just like any of you.

I merely find relief in a different way.

Why, why look at me like I'm out of my mind...

I have had people call me an attention-seeker.

The only thing that did was to send me back to the blade. It used to be the art knife or the scissors before I came to archi and saw the wonders of an olfa. I learnt how to hide the lacerations with long-sleeved shirts, wristbands, watches.

People need to understand that yes, a small percentage do cut only to be cool, but boy, they really have to be damn courageous to do that. They are not representative of the rest of us.

Cool is the last thing on my mind when the desire to cut arises.

Well, unless it's the cooling of emotions. It is not for fun; it has never been.

Everybody knows I'm squeamish about blood and veins and the likes of them. But when i feel helpless against the tides of emotions, cutting isn't about biology anymore. I have yet to find someone who understands the relief that the physical pain can bring. Except one other person who saw the scars and confided that he used to do it too. Only people who've done it can ever know how it feels...

By no means am I asking or coaxing anybody to self-inflict pain on themselves. Although I'm not well-read, I do know that it is medically unhealthy to do so.

I'm more willing to talk about this now because I have resolved not to do it anymore. Whether or not I feel that it can bring me faster relief. I'm glad I have friends and family whom I now know will help me in any way they can. I like to tell myself that the greatest strength lies in restraint.

If you ever suspect someone close to you is self-mutilating, don't shun or be too quick to judge him/her. It doesn't mean that just because he/she is doing it, he/she is looking for attention. And even if he/she is, that itself is already a problem.

Sometimes, each and every one of us just needs someone who can reach out and understand.
